Scientist from CMI visiting PTB

The tight interaction between the eleven partners is a basic ingredient for a fruitful collaboration in the GIQS project. This month, a scientist from the Czech Metrology Institute (CMI), Jan Kucera, is visiting the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB). He has given a talk on his measurements at the graphene-based quantum Hall devices which were fabricated at PTB and the Korean Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS). The image shows from left to right: Klaus Pierz, the GIGS coordinator, and Jan Kucera from CMI. The data show a real improvement of the device quality compared to earlier ones. The results and the discussions are beneficial for further improvements of the upcoming device fabrication runs. Jan Kucera will stay in Braunschweig to perform further measurements in the labs of PTB.

A main goal of the GIQS project is the development of stable impedance quantum standards. Four institutes from France, Korea and Germany are engaged in the fabrication of graphene-based quantum Hall devices: the CNRS institutes CRHEA and C2N, KRISS and PTB. They are supported by scientists from the Metrology Institutes of Czech, France and Switzerland: Czech Metrology Institute (CMI), Laboratoire national de métrologie et d’essais (LNE) and Eidgenössisches Institut für Metrologie (METAS) which are also involved in the characterization of the devices by dc- and ac-quantum Hall measurements.
