Project description

The Project Opens external link in new windowGEMiMEG-II is lighthouse project of the German Ministry of Economic affairs and Energy funded in the program “Digital Technologies for the Economy”.

It focusses on digitalization in metrology, a field with various aspects studies by partners from industry, research institutes and universities in a multidisciplinary approach. To advance the transfer of digital technologies to economy and society, all concepts will be developed in small and intermediate-sized industrial demonstrators, so-called real beds.

In the field of coordinate metrology, digital twins are a well-known means to access the task-specific measurement uncertainty for complex measurement tasks and have ever since been developed in close and reliable cooperation between PTB and the producers and users of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).

The wide-spread acceptance of digital products in industrial applications is crucially dependent on a reliable and uniform infrastructure. Therefore, a digital platform for measurement processes will be developed in GEMiMEG-II. Particularly the digital calibration certificate (DCC) is a pivotal building block of the project, defining unified methods and procedures to allow for the robust and machine-readable transfer of metrological data. The developments are tested extended and perfected for the industrial use by the project partners within and beyond PTB.

The more and more digitalized industrial environment heavily depends on reliable machine-to-machine communication. In the subproject, the communication will be tested in PTB’s digital Competence Center for Wind Energy including a large-scale CMM. In divisions 1, 2 and the Presidential Staff group PSt 1, concepts and methods for a reliable communication between sensors, measurement instruments and an increasing number of Digital Twins are develope.

This project is funded by the German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy.
