Capacity to control sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) risks and meet international food safety, animal and plant health standards is an important determinant of developing countries’ ability to gain and maintain market access. It also affects agricultural productivity and domestic food safety. The STDF helps developing countries to improve their food safety, animal and plant health capacity by increasing awareness, mobilizing resources, strengthening collaboration and identifying and disseminating good practice in SPS-related technical cooperation. In addition, it provides support and funding for the development and implementation of projects that promote compliance with international SPS requirements.
