WP1: Provide increased accuracy for tactile measurements in industry (WP leader: METAS)

  • Production of tactile probes with very small probing elements (diameter < 100 µm) for measurement of geometries that are currently not measurable by the existing probes.

  • Enhanced accuracy of tactile probes by desirable and suitable methods to characterise and calibrate tactile probes in 3D, including full 3D mapping of the probing sphere with uncertainties below 10 nm.

  • Investigation of workpiece-probe interaction, friction and wear (e.g. roughness characteristics, material properties, surface layers, cleaning, coatings) to enhance the probing accuracy in industrial applications. This investigation will also cover non-tactile probes.
