A full meeting of IEC/TC 29 Electroacoustics was held in November 2021 and Infra-AUV developments on the agenda for the Plenary sessions and featured in several working groups.
- The report compiling performance and test requirements for infrasound measuring instruments was presented in the plenary session. The report itself can be downloaded here
- The same report and its implications were discussed in more detail in the working group on sound level meters (MT4), where it was concluded that the IEC 61672-series of international standards was indeed the appropriate place for new standardised content on this topic, perhaps as a new Part 4 in the series.
- New infrasound measuring instrument requirements were also discussed in the sound calibrator working group (MT17) where a future need to develop a portable calibration device was highlighted.
- Separately, the working group on measurement microphone (WG5) progressed a revision to the international standard IEC 61094-2 that describes the realisation of primary measurement standards for airborne sound. A newly introduced analytical model formulated by members of the Infra-AUV project team, effectively extends the scope of this standard to infrasound frequencies. The revised IEC 61094-2 is expected to be published early in 2022. A second document on alternative calibration methods suited to low frequency sound and infrasound was also finalised, with input derived from the Infra-AUV project. This will now be circulated for international voting and if approved should also be published in 2022.
Contributions to international standard is a priority for EMPIR projects and Infra-AUV is already generating early impact in the field of infrasound.
