Glossary
The following glossary is directly linked to the projects EMPIR 17IND02 - SmartCom
Term | Definition | SmartCom |
---|---|---|
DCC | Digital Calibration Certificate - machine readable digital format for exchange of calibration data and certificate | Basic XML structure developed contains the information typically stored in a paper based certificate |
CODATA | CODATA - worldwide organisation responsible for managing the values associated with fundamental physical constants e.g. Planck's constant | The list of fundamental physical constants, described in CODATA is used for models of constants in D-SI |
Digital Signature | Digital signature - is a person-related cryptographic method for verifying the authenticity of digital messages or documents (Affined term is Digital SEAL) | Digital signature is employed as a tool for secure transmission of metrological data in digital files, for example DCC |
D-SI | Digital System of Units - metadata model for easy-to-use, safe, harmonised and unambiguous digital transfer of metrological data | Digital representation of the SI units and quantity values with measurement uncertainty, e.g. for use within DCCs and digital data exchange |
eIDAS | electronic IDentification And trust Services - is an EU regulation on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the European Single Market. It was established in EU Regulation 910/2014 of 23 July 2014 on electronic identification and repeals 1999/93/EC from 13 December 1999 | eIDAS defines a variety of signature standards accepted as being eIDAS compliant for XML signatures. The eIDAS compliant digital signatures are valid for secure transfer of metrological data |
Machine-readable | Machine-readable data format - is a format that can be processed by a computer. Machine-readable data must be structured data | The use of the XML language as a tool to generate, transfer and store machine-readable data is justified |
Metadata | Metadata - data that describes Data. Typically metadata depends on the users point of view. One persons metadata is another persons data. Therefore the context of the viewpoint is important | Metadata model for the exchange of measurement data which helps to establish the use of units in digitalised communication was developed |
TraCIM | Traceability for computationally-intensive metrology - an online service to provide traceability to mathematically intensive computational based analysis established by PTB | The adopted version of the service is used for measurement data units validation in DCC |
Cryptography | Cryptography - is a method of protecting information and communications through the use of codes, so that only those for whom the information is intended can read and process it | The security concept for safe metrological data exchange based on public key cryptography is developed. The idea behind public key cryptography is using cryptographic keys and specific algorithms for creating and validating digital signatures and encrypting files |
