In a specific region of the brain, the cerebral cortex is thinner in smokers than in people who have never smoked. This has been found in a cooperation between researchers of the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and PTB. It has for some time been known that ...

Increasingly, Laser Doppler Anemometers (LDA) which are retraced by PTB are used by calibration laboratories, by test benches for air and gas flow rate, and by large test rigs for fluidic and calorimetric flow metering as a transfer standard for the measurement of flow velocity. The primary standard for the calibration of LDA systems – a precisely rotating glass disk – has now been subjected...

The activity of Cd-113m was determined with two liquid scintillation counting methods with small uncertainties. By combining the procedure with measurement results from gamma spectrometry, the photon emission probability of the 264 keV transition could - for the first time - be exactly determined. The half-life of the isotope, too, was redetermined with improved uncertainty.

Due to the complexity of the problems, measuring and calculating require a solid knowledge base. Persons who already have a professional career often do not find the time to acquire the basics of this specific field in which their profession has "led" them. Thus, many engineers sooner or later discover that they have to do with acoustics without ever having learned it properly.

Within the scope of a project funded by the DFG and carried out in cooperation with the TU Berlin (Prof. Orglmeister), a new method for the spatial separation of dependent source signals in MEG was developed in 2009. The method ...

Within the scope of the project INSIKA which is fostered by the BMWi, the development of a procedure has been completed by means of which measurement and POS (point-of-sale) data can be reliably checked by auditing entities. The procedure ...

For several years, PTB has participated in interlaboratory comparisons for cell counting in liquor. The aim of these experiments is to apply the measurement methods which are used for the reference value determination of erythrocyte and leukocyte concentrations within the scope of the complete blood count to cell counting in liquor. The concentrations of the leukocytes and erythrocytes ...
