DCC-Workshop 2020

International DCC Conference

When:  Tuesday, 20th and Wednesday, 21st October 2020

Where: online

Ladies and gentlemen, dear colleagues,

We would like to draw your attention to the International DCC Event on October 20th and 21st, 2020 organized by PTB. Because of "COVID-19 (Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2)" we will break new ground and hold a completely digital conference with video download of the conference contributions before the conference and live discussions. The event will be all about the Digital Calibration Certificate (DCC): the structure, the application, the use of the Digital Unit System (D-SI), the features, the international benefits, and last but not least your opportunity to o be involved in the design of the DCC.

Participants from all over the world are invited to exchange ideas and experiences with us and learn a lot about the DCC. The conference, held in English, is aimed at (in alphabetical order):

  • Accreditation bodies
  • Calibration laboratories
  • National Metrology Institutes and Designated Institutes
  • Private industry

Due to "COVID-19" we are breaking new ground in the organisation of this conference. Due to digitalisation, there are now many possibilities to participate in meetings and web conferences in virtual rooms of the internet. Thus, no participation fees will be charged. We will take the following path:

1. First, we will ask you to register for the event. This is necessary because we want to create - depending on the demand - one or more online events which are interactive. Our intention is to enable the very important feedback and exchange between the auditorium and the speakers, which would not be possible in a pure broadcast event. We would still like to achieve that a large number of participants representing different nations can take part in the event.

2. The contributions (ideally recorded speeches with slides or videos) will already be made available one week before the conference. From this point on, it will be possible to send us questions and make comments on the respective contributions, which will be presented and discussed during the conference.
At the beginning of the conference, all participants will have access to the questions and comments.

3. The conference itself will focus on discussing the presentations, the questions and comments received, and on drawing conclusions. It will start each day at 12:00 UTC and last about three hours. The questions and comments received so far on the presentations will be successively discussed together online and further questions and comments will be welcomed as well. We estimate that these sessions will take about two hours. At the end of the discussion blocks, there will be the possibility to meet in smaller virtual group rooms in order to arrange more intensive possibilities for exchange. By this approach, we achieve the following advantages / benefits:

  • It is possible for all participants in the world to attend the conference. It is also made easier by the fact that only about two to three hours need to be planned for each day of the event.
  • The discussions can thus be well prepared and can be easily followed by the participants.
  • The extremely important opportunities to exchange views over coffee/tea or at the conference dinner during on-site conferences are - at least partially - taken into account.

We ask you to register to this cost-free conference as soon as possible, at the latest by 2020-06-07. You will receive a confirmation of your registration immediately afterwards. Depending on the number of registrations, eventually we will decide to hold additional conferences. These additional conferences would be held immediately afterwards (foreseen: 2020‑10‑22 and 23 | 2020‑10‑27 and 28 | 2020‑10‑29 and 30) Please understand that we can only confirm your participation at a later stage. At the moment, we are identifying and defining our technical options. Furthermore, it should be guaranteed that participants from many nations can take part in the event.

Please, distribute this conference notice to interested colleagues, especially from abroad. You will find further information on the website dcc-2020.ptb.de. Here, you can also subscribe to the DCC newsletter, which will keep you informed about the current status of planning for the DCC event.
