Ten years of THz imaging in heritage science; General Treatment of Material Dispersion in Time-Domain Simulations

Kolloquium der Abteilung 7

This talk introduces an overview of 10 years terahertz time domain imaging activities in heritage science, including recent case studies of modern paintings. The biggest advantage of THz imaging in heritage science is that the technique can obtain cross-section images of artworks nondestructively. The THz images provide useful information to investigate current condition as well as history of artworks.

General approach for treatment of material dispersion in the finite-difference time-domain method is presented. We show a general concept of the proposed method and demonstrate the validity of the method by comparison with analytical results. Finally, we perform numerical dosimetry of human body exposed to an ultra-wideband electro-magnetic pulse.
