EMPIR-16ENV02 Black Carbon “Metrology for light absorption by atmospheric aerosols

The EMPIR-16ENV02 project Black Carbon was launched in summer 2017. During the first phase of the project we have investigated different soot generators regarding their suitability as aerosol sources for absorption photometers. We defined criteria, which aim a certain size range, as well as a defined single-scattering behavior of the soot particles. The first preliminary measurements have been performed at PTB on a propane-based soot generator. Furthermore, samples were prepared for external project partners and examined with the electron microscope (TSEM) at PTB.
