Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) is a unique technique for measuring the concentrations of neurotransmitters and other metabolites non-invasively. Applied to confined pathologies in the brain, it is often desirable to compare spectra from both the affected and the unaffected, contra-lateral area. Ideally, both spectra are acquired simultaneously with minimal cost of extra scan time. To this end, Layla Riemann (AG 8.12) and colleagues developed both an acquisition sequence employing a multi-banded adiabatic inversion pulse for the first time, and a retrospective reassignment of the signal to their respective region, based on a reconstruction algorithm known from MR imaging. Their feasibility was validated in three different brain regions of twelve healthy subjects at the 7T MRI scanner. This cooperative work of PTB groups 8.12 and 8.14, Charité Berlin, and Magdeburg University has now been accepted for publication in a forthcoming issue of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine.
