Open Access Transformation - Share of Freely Accessible Publications Continues to Rise

27.04.2021

In scientific publishing, the publication form Open Access, which ensures immediate, free and permanent availability of scientific publications on the Internet, is becoming increasingly important. This development can also be clearly observed at PTB: According to the PTB-Publica database, the proportion of open access gold and hybrid journal articles published has increased from 17.65% (2017) to 43.06% (2020) - with a further upward trend.

PTB supports the OA transformation and the PTB Library supports PTB authors by providing information on the financing models of individual publishers, enabling special conditions through participation in consortia and also administering these costs.

In addition to the DEAL contracts with the publishers Springer and Wiley, the PTB Library has also entered into contractual agreements with the publishers Copernicus Publications, EDP Sciences, Institute of Physics (IOP), Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and SPIE.
