The assessment of possible perturbations from wind turbines on aviation traffic control facilities will be officially made possible from June 1, 2020 by an improved scientific calculation formula.
The new forecast method for so-called DVOR navigation systems (Doppler Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Radio Range), of which there are about 40 being operated in Germany, is a result of the research projects "WERAN" and "WERAN plus", in which the PTB is involved as coordinator since eight years together with partners from two companies and three universities from Germany.
The work was supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), the Federal Supervisory Authority for Air Traffic Control (BAF) and the DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH.
For more information see PTB press release from May 13, 2020 (German only).
