I. Using this Website

1. Logfiles

When you visit this website, PTB processes the following data by means of automatic logging:

  • IP address
  • Date and Time
  • retrieved page/name of retrieved file
  • message whether the access/retrieval was successful
  • volume of data transmitted

The processing is based on Article 6 (1) e) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in conjunction with § 3 of the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) for the maintenance of the availability and integrity of its information technology systems and website to ensure PTB’s public information mandate.

Such data are stored temporarily, for a maximum of seven (7) days, and are used for statistical purposes, to improve our website and to ensure data protection and information security at PTB.

PTB reserves the right to further scrutinize this data should there be evidence of criminal acts or cyber-attacks and forward such protocol data to the responsible law enforcement authorities and/or the Federal Office for Information Security (Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik - BSI).

There will be no further use or disclosure to third parties.

2. Cookies

When accessing this website, so-called temporary session cookies will be stored on your device to facilitate navigational features. These cookies do not contain personal data and expire after your session has ended. Techniques such as Java applets or Active X controls that enable PTB to track its websites’ users access behavior are not used.

 

II. When contacting PTB using E-Mail or Contact Forms

If you contact PTB via a contact form or by e-mail, PTB will process the personal data you have used in doing so to process your request and, if necessary, contact you.

The legal basis on which your data will be processed depends on the nature of your request. If PTB acts by exercising official authority or within the scope of its statutory tasks, processing will be based on Article 6 (1) e), (3) GDPR in conjunction with § 3 BDSG.

Your data will be deleted once your request has been processed, notwithstanding statutory retention periods. the nature of your request will determine, which periods will be applicable. Retention periods of inquiries from the public will be determined in accordance with the statutory periods of the Registry Directive (Registraturrichtlinie), which supplements the Joint Rules of Procedure of the Federal Ministries (Gemeinsame Geschäftsordnung - GGO). Further information can be requested informally or by way of a request of information pursuant to Article 15 GDPR (see below).

Any further use or disclosure to third parties, except in cases provided for by law and for the prosecution of criminal offenses or for the purpose of countering threats and dangers, will only be made if you have given your consent or when and to the extent such disclosure is necessary to process your request.

3. Short-URLs

On our website and in documents and publications accessible via our website, we occasionally use links generated by means of the URL-Shortener-Service "T1P.de" of okua GmbH, Potschappler Str. 4, 01189 Dresden, Germany. The service enables the transformation of long URLs into short links and thus serves to make links easier to read and visually appealing in the context of publications and facilitates the transferability of links in the event of media discontinuities (e.g. in printed publications).

If you follow a link beginning with "http://t1p.de", a connection is established to a server of okua GmbH and a forwarding to the URL stored for the respective short link takes place. Okua GmbH stores your IP address, the browser used and the time of access for a period of up to 7 days. The processing is based on Article 6 (1) e), (3) GDPR in conjunction with § 3 BDSG for the purpose of providing user-friendly links by the PTB within the scope of exercising official authority or within the scope of its statutory tasks, You have the option of displaying the target website to which a short link refers without being forwarded directly to it. To do this, copy the short link into the address line of your browser and add a plus sign ("+") at the end of the respective link. III. Publications and Newsletters

This website provides various publications and brochures concerning PTB’s tasks, research and history as free downloads in pdf format.

In some cases, indicated by the presence of an additional information field titled “order”, PTB offers to order print copies of such publications by post, e-mail or telephone.

When contacting PTB to order publications, PTB will process the following personal data: first name, last name, address and (i) e-mail address, if you have contacted us by e-mail, or (ii) telephone number, if you have placed your order by telephone.

The processing of these data will be based on performance of a contract according to Article 6 (1) b) GDPR, exclusively for the purpose of processing your order. Your data will be deleted afterwards.

Your name and address will be disclosed to the postal service provider responsible for the order’s delivery. There will be no further disclosure to third parties by PTB.

1. When subscribing to the magazine “die maßstäbe”

This website provides PTB’s magazine “die maßstäbe” as a free download in pdf format.

If you would like to receive “die maßstäbe” regularly by post, you can subscribe to the magazine using the form provided. In this case PTB will process the following of your personal data: first name, name, address and e-mail address.

The processing of these data will be based on your voluntary consent according to Article 6 (1) a) GDPR, given to PTB by submitting the subscription form, exclusively for the purpose of processing your subscription.

Your name and address will be disclosed to the postal service provider responsible for the order’s delivery. There will be no further disclosure to third parties by PTB.

Not giving consent into the above will merely mean that PTB will not be able to provide you with “die maßstäbe” by post. You can still access this magazine by downloading it from PTB’s website or retrieving printed copies from PTB’s headquarters.

Regarding your right to withdraw your consent at any time, please refer to Section D below. You may use the subscription form’s “no longer subscribe” option to withdraw your consent. Your data will be deleted when you withdraw your consent, and you will not receive any further copies until you subscribe again.

2. When ordering “PTB-News”

This website provides PTB’s scientific newsletter “PTB-News” as free download in pdf format.

If you would like to regularly receive copies of the “PTB-News” by post and/or e-mail, you can subscribe to the newsletter by using the form provided.

In this case PTB will process the following of your personal data:

  • e-mail subscription: your e-mail address
  • postal subscription: your first name, name and address and e-mail address

Processing of these data will be based on your voluntary consent according to Article 6 (1) a) GDPR, given to PTB by submitting the subscription form, exclusively for the purpose of processing your subscription. In case you wish to change the method of delivery, PTB will also need to process any further data necessary for delivery.

Your name and address will be disclosed to the postal service provider responsible for the order’s delivery, if applicable. There will be no further disclosure to third parties by PTB.

Not giving consent into the above will merely mean that PTB will not be able to provide you with “PTB-News” by post or e-mail. You can access all of the news contained in “PTB News” to the same extent by downloading them from PTB’s website or retrieving printed copies from PTB’s headquarters.

Regarding your right to withdraw your consent at any time, please refer to Section D below. You may use the subscription form’s “I no longer wish to read PTB-News” option to withdraw your consent. Your data will be deleted insofar you withdraw your consent, and you will not receive any further copies until you subscribe again.

3. When subscribing to the newsletter “candela”

With “Candela” this website provides PTB department 9.3’s blog with news and reports concerning the field of Technical Cooperation.

If you would like to receive a summary of the latest blog entries by e-mail on a regular basis, you can subscribe to the “Candela” newsletter using the form provided.

The processing of your e-mail address will be based on your voluntary consent according to Article 6 (1) a) GDPR, given to PTB by submitting the subscription form, exclusively for the purpose of processing your subscription. Your data will not be disclosed to third parties.

Not giving consent in the above sense will merely mean that PTB will not be able to provide you with e-mail concerning “Candela”. You can access all of the news contained in this newsletter to the same extent by accessing the blog “Candela”.

Regarding your right to withdraw your consent at any time, please refer to Section II below. You may use the subscription form’s “unsubscribe” option to withdraw your consent. Your data will be deleted when you withdraw your consent, and you will not receive any further newsletters until you subscribe again.

 

IV. When planning your visit to PTB

The PTB offers group tours enabling interested persons to experience PTB laboratories and activities up close. To tailor such tours around your interests, you have the opportunity to provide details of your visit and, in particular, wishes regarding the laboratories you want to visit.

The web form offered for this purpose queries various personal data, allowing PTB’s PR office to plan your visit. However, to submit the form only your e-mail address and desired date of visit must be entered. All other information is optional at this point. Your e-mail address will then be processed for contacting you and detailed planning of your visit. As planning progresses, additional personal data may be collected (e.g., first name, name, address, telephone number). Such data will only be collected and used to the extent necessary to stay in touch with you and/or plan your visit.

The processing of your data will be based on your voluntary consent according to Article 6 (1) a) GDPR. All data entered or processed - whether compulsory or optional - will be processed only for the planning and performance of your visit and deleted after the visit. The data will only be processed by PTB and will not be disclosed to third parties. Should you wish to visit PTB’s restaurant, no personal data will be disclosed to the restaurant’s operator.

Regarding your right to withdraw your consent at any time, please refer to Section D below.

 

V. Video surveillance at the entrances to PTB in Braunschweig

1. Monitoring of the side entrances

To safeguard its property rights and to control access to its premises, the PTB monitors its side entrances by means of video surveillance equipment.

This is done based on § 4 (1) 1) and 2) BDSG.

Besides their perception in real-time, data are not processed or stored.

2. Monitoring of the exit area of the main entrance

To prevent accidents, safeguard road traffic and for reasons of general danger prevention, the PTB monitors the exit area at its main entrance by means of video surveillance equipment.

This is done based on § 4 (1) 2) and 3) BDSG.

Besides their perception in real-time, data are not processed or stored.

 

D. Your Rights as a Data Subject

Data subjects may exercise certain statutory rights wherever their personal data are processed. These are in particular:

Right of Access: According to Article 15 GDPR, you have the right to obtain, free of charge, confirmation as to whether PTB processes personal data concerning you, access to this data by means of a copy of such personal data undergoing processing and in particular information concerning:

,
  • the purposes of processing,
  • the categories of personal data concerned,
  • the recipients or categories of recipient to whom the personal data have been or will be disclosed,
  • the envisaged period for which the personal data will be stored, or the criteria used to determine that period,
  • where the personal data are not collected from you, any available information as to their source.

When responding to a request for information, PTB will also provide you with any other information stipulated by Article 15(1) and (3) not expressly mentioned in this statement on data protection.

The exceptions stipulated by § 34 BDSG remain unaffected.

Right to Rectification: According to Article 16 GDPR, you have the right to obtain from PTB with undue delay the rectification of personal data concerning you or, if applicable, the right to have incomplete personal data completed.

Right to Erasure: According to Article 17 GDPR, you have the right to obtain erasure of your personal data processed by PTB if the conditions of Article 17(1) are met. This right will - according to Article 17 (3) - not apply to processing necessary e.g. for exercising right of freedom of expression and information, for compliance with a legal obligation, for reasons of public interest, or for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.

The exceptions stipulated by § 35 BDSG remain unaffected.

Right to Restriction of Processing: According to Article 18 GDPR, you have the right to obtain from PTB restriction of processing:

  • for a period enabling PTB to verify the accuracy of your personal data contested by you, and/or
  • in case the processing is unlawful and you oppose the erasure of the personal data and request the restriction of their use instead, and/or
  • when you require the personal data for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims, but PTB no longer needs them for the purposes of the processing and hence would need to delete them, and/or
  • when you objected to processing pursuant to Article 21(1) pending the verification whether the legitimate grounds of PTB override yours.

Personal data whose processing has been restricted will, with the exception of storage, only be processed with your consent or for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims or for the rights of another natural or legal person or for reasons of important public interest of the European Union or of a Member State.

PTB will inform you before any restriction of processing in the above sense is lifted.

Right to Data Portability: According to Article 20 GDPR, you have the right to receive the personal data concerning you, which you have provided to PTB, in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format when and insofar processing of this data is based on your consent or on a contract and when this processing is carried out by automated means.

Right to Withdrawal of Consent: According to Article 7 (3) GDPR, you have the right to withdraw your consent to processing your personal data when and insofar processing is based thereon with effect for the future. Withdrawal will not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal. You may direct your withdrawal towards the e-mail-address mentioned in this website’s imprint or use any other means of communication.

Right to Lodge a Complaint with a Supervisory Authority: According to Article 77 GDPR, you - without prejudice to any other remedy - have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority if you consider that PTB’s processing of your personal data infringes data protection law. This complaint may be lodged with any supervisory authority within the territorial scope of the GDPR.
