Physical safety engineering and explosion protection

The subject area 13 "Physical Safety Engineering and Explosion Protection" is part of the cooperation with the BAM Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing in the field of "chemical-physical safety engineering" with the following tasks:

  1. Investigation of the fundamentals for primary, secondary and tertiary explosion protection within the scope of joint projects with universities, other research institutes, occupational associations, as well as with research and development areas of companies and company pools for the development of scientific theories and the further development of the state of the art in explosion protection

  2. Establishment of the metrological infrastructure for test requirements in explosion protection by the development of standardized test equipment, the development and validation of test procedures and the coordination of international interlaboratory comparisons, e.g. within the scope of the IECEx system

  3. Transfer of knowledge for the purpose of rendering consultancy services to ministries, supervisory bodies, industrial associations and science by collaborating in the regulation and standardization at the international, European and national levels by contributing the results of points 1 and 2 above

  4. Service in the global environment to implement the requirements of German industry (manufacturers of devices for potentially explosive atmospheres and operators of corresponding facilities), also as a basis for the technical orientation of points 1 to 3, and taking the cooperation with and the qualification of external partners into account.
