Metrology of the future presented at the Hermann von Helmholtz Symposium 2021

IZSM
17.09.2021

In a phase of upheaval towards the end of the 19th century, the scientist Helmholtz collaborated with the entrepreneur Werner von Siemens to tread a completely new and visionary path by founding the Physikalisch-Technische Reichsanstalt (Imperial Physical Technical Institute – PTR) in 1887. The PTR was the world's first metrology institute, and it served in conjunction with the evolution of technical standardization to form a solid foundation on which to build the “Made in Germany” label and make it the seal of quality and innovation that it remains today. At the symposium honoring Hermann von Helmholtz's 200th birthday, the IZSM directors showcased how systems metrology can act as a catalyst once again, and they provided insights into the first three pilot projects currently in the startup phase.
