Quality management system

PTB operates an integrated quality management system (QM system) which covers the following four interlinked fields of business: Fundamentals of Metrology, Metrology for the Economy, Metrology for Society and International Affairs.

With this QM system, the requirements laid down in ISO/IEC 17025 – and thus the principles of ISO 9001 and, where applicable, the standards of the serie ISO/IEC 17 000 along with ISO 17 034 – are complied with. Furthermore, the  "Recommendations for Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice" of the DFG have been integrated into the QM system.

These requirements form the basis of a permanent internal QM self-assessment process carried out by the PTB Management. Since 2001, PTB's QM system has been assessed as successful once a year by an international expert committee. The basis of such an assessment is formed by internal QM documents and QM records which prove that all metrological achievements of PTB are covered by the QM system and that the requirements of the multi-lateral Mutual Recognition Arrangement (CIPM-MRA) on the mutual recognition of the national standards and of the respective results reports are fulfilled on a lasting basis.
