The knowledge of the propagation and mixing of fluid jets consisting of different components is of fundamental importance in the field of explosion protection, especially for the emission control and the prevention of explosive gas mixtures. Based on the Navier-Stokes equations and depending on the required characteristics, different turbulence models are used which achieve different time-dependent and spatial resolutions. Numerical simulations describe the flow process in more detail than can be achieved by measurements; due to the fact that the models are empirical, they must, however, be confirmed by selective measurements.
