MNPQ Project "AHD Method for the Determination of the Haemoglobin Concentration"

23.08.2010

Within the scope of an MNPQ project, work on the validation of the AHD (alkaline haematin detergent) method as an improved routine procedure and a new reference procedure for the determination of the haemoglobin concentration in blood was initiated and started in cooperation with Medisynthana Diagnostics GmbH & Co. KG. The aim of the project is to prove, at highest metrological level, that the AHD method is better suited than the conventional HiCN (cyan methaemoglobin) method. If this project was successful, this would considerably accelerate the application of the AHD method – which is also recommended by the WHO – for routine examinations in developping countries. In these countries, the AHD method is of particular interest, since laboratory conditions are insufficient for the HiCN method, in general.
