Profile
Analytical methods used in medical laboratories form the basis for decisions in many areas of medical diagnosis and treatment. We develop measurement methods for laboratory medicine, in particular for cell counting as well as for the molecular detection of pathogens in cooperation with WG 8.33. This includes the development of reference measurement procedures and to determine reference measurement values, e.g. for the measurands of the complete blood count (i.e. the determination of reference measurement values for the concentration of erythrocytes, leukocytes and platelets, as well as the hemoglobin concentration and related measurands).
For this purpose, we develop flow cytometers with traceable volume dosage. In addition, our devices allow to measure the concentration of nanoparticles, with potential application to viruses or even DNA fragments. Microscopic cell counting, e.g. using counting chambers, is used for comparison, particularly if identification of biological particles or sample density measurement poses challenges.
