Profile
The working group is the only one in the world which is able to realise the new low temperature scale (PLTS-2000) in the whole range between 1 mK and 1 K with lowest uncertainties. The scale is disseminated by means of calibrated thermometers and superconductive reference point samples. Current research activities are the improvement and simplification of the realisation of the scale. In the field of practical thermometry the working group is supporting industry and research groups by the investigation of new temperature sensors, measurement methods and sources of measurement uncertainties.
Research/Development
- Primary thermometry at temperatures between 1 mK and 1 K by means of Noise Thermometry
- Realisation of the Provisional Low Temperature Scale of 2000 (PLTS-2000) between 1 mK and 1 K by means of Helium-3-melting pressure thermometry and reference points
- Investigation of superconducting reference point samples, temperature sensors and thermal measurement errors

Calibrations
The service specifications of our calibrations are summarized in the measurement and calibration capabilities of the Division 7. The calibration and measurement capabilities for contact thermometers can be found at the ID numbers 7.4. The costs are determined on the basis of the PTB Regulations Governing Charges applicable for the particular service in the currently valid version rendered by PTB. The costs are calculated in accordance with average fees or the invoicing is effected according to actual time expenditure. An overview can be found at point 10, thermometry. For a specific quotation we need further information: What are the temperature range and the requested uncertainties? What type of sensor do you want to calibrate? Please contact directly our service address tkalibrierung(at)ptb.de.
