First success in the INS project "Reference fields for pulsed radiation"

03.12.2012

The project "Reference radiation fields for pulsed radiation" was approved within the scope of the BMWi programme "Innovation with Standards (INS)", funded by the German Association for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies (Deutsche Kommission Elektrotechnik Elektronik und Informationstechnik) of DIN and VDE (DKE). The project aims to develop an innovative concept for the normalization and standardization of reference fields for pulsed radiation. Defining reference fields is a basic pre-condition both for the development, testing, and calibration of radioprotection dosemeters, and for the further development of radiation sources for the range of pulsed radiation.

The national approach elaborated for this purpose is currently being introduced into international standardization. To this end, a draft for the international Technical Specification "ISO 18090-1 Radiological protection - Characteristics of reference pulsed radiation - Part 1: Photon radiation" was submitted under the auspices of PTB. Its processing was approved and the essential key aspects were already defined on the occasion of the first meeting of the working group.
