The beam guide system leads ions of a chosen energy to the target. A switching magnet guides the ions to one of five available beam lines. The ions hit a target located and the end of the beam line, (Figure 1) and the reactions of the ions with the nuclei in the target material produce neutrons or high-energy photons used for experiments.
