R&D project

Certification of evaluation algorithms for involute cylindrical gears on coordinate measuring machines

Period of the project

Start: November 2020
End:  April 2024

Description of the project

The aim of this project is to certify evaluation algorithms for involute cylindrical gears on coordinate measuring machines. In cooperation with industrial partners, a software test service will be developed, which enables manufacturers of coordinate measuring machines and software developers to test their algorithms against independent reference data. In a first step, reference software will be developed, which will be suitable for a wide range of common gear geometries also including the most important flank modifications. Moreover, it will be necessary to define evaluation strategies for certain combinations of geometries and modifications as not all possible cases are treated by current standards and guidelines. The new software test service will be integrated in PTB’s TraCIM system (https://tracim.ptb.de).

At the end of this project, it will be possible for the first time to get a certificate for gear evaluation software and to reliably quantify their accuracy. Companies based in Germany will be the first to have an official test certificate from PTB.

Project partner

The project is realized in cooperation with a great number of partners from industry.
