The group Single-photon Metrology at LENA has been set up as part of the new research center "Laboratory for Emerging Nanometrology" (LENA) of the Technical University of Braunschweig, in which PTB is involved as a strategic partner.
The group is working on single-photon sources for radiometric and metrological applications. For this purpose, sources based on lattice defects such as color centers in diamonds and hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) are investigated. By means of a confocal microscope, micro-photoluminescence spectroscopy is performed at room temperature and in the visible spectral range. The spectroscopic investigations include measurements of the photon flux, the spectrum and the single-photon purity. In addition to the characterization of single-photon emitters, the group is working on the optimization of angular-dependent emission to increase the quantum efficiency.
Research/Development
Research and development in the field of single-photon metrology:
- Preparation of single-photon emitters (such as nitrogen defect centers (NV centers))
- Characterization of single-photon emitters at room temperature (NV, GeV, SiV centers, hBN, etc.)
- Characterization of single-photon emitters at cryogenic temperatures (GaInN quantum dots)
- Theoretical and experimental investigation of the angle-dependent emission characteristics of single-photon emitters
