Fabrication of Nanostructures

Working Group 2.53

In the group we study transport in nanostructures which are fabricated in different ways. The nanostructures are e.g. fabricated using electron beam lithography and clean room processing or by self assembly during MBE growth. Furthermore, we study transport in carbon nanotubes which are fabricated at the Max-Planck-Institute for solid state research, Stuttgart.

Elektron beam lithography

When starting from GaAs/AlGaAs two dimensional electron systems the dimension of the devices is further reduced by e-beam lithography and consecutive etching and deposition of electrostatic gates. This way zero dimensional (quantum dots) and one dimensional (quantum wires) devices are fabricated.

Self assembly

During growth of InAs on GaAs and AlAs nanometer size self assembled InAs quantum dots can form under certain conditions.

Carbon nanotubes

Carbon nanotubes are perfect one dimensional conductors which can show semiconducting or metallic characteristics. We study single charge pumping in carbon nanotubes which are fabricated at the MPI Stuttgart.
