Dilution Cryostats

  • Research:

    • Single-charge circuits
      (WG 2.42)

Two commercial dilution cryostat systems (producer Oxford Instr.) are presently used for measurements on mesoscopic structures in the millikelvin temperature range.

Dilution Cryostat KELVINOX ATS Minisorp

Specs:

  • Cooling power 50 µW at T = 100 mK
  • Base temperature about 20 mK
  • Magnetic field 2 T (superconducting solenoid magnet)

Advantages:

  • Fast sample changing (turn around time about 12 h)
  • Low vibrations due to sorption pumps
  • Flexible due to many well-filtered leads

Disadvantage:

  • Small usable volume

Dilution Cryostat KELVINOX 400

Specs:

  • Cooling power 400 µW at T = 100 mK
  • Base temperature about 7 mK
  • Magnetic field 2 T (superconducting solenoid magnet)

Advantage:

  • Large usable volume

Disadvantages:

  • Sample changing cumbersome (turn around time > 24 h)
  • Low magnetic field
