Assessment of uncertainty for the calibration of intelligent antenna arrays


The data rates in mobile communications have grown steadily in the past years. In order to fulfil future requirements for faster data transmission it is necessary to use the limited spectral resources with high efficiency. By means of dynamic beam forming of intelligent antenna systems every user in the coverage area is only provided with the energy required for the transmission. The power is distributed selectively in space and thus the frequencies in the coverage area can be used multiple times which increases the spectral efficiency and reduces energy consumption.
New transmission systems, e.g., in the new mobile communications standard 5G, require new metrological metrics which must be validated and characterized regarding their measurement uncertainty.
