The prototyp of the digital calibration certificate has been further developed

23.12.2021

The prototype of the digital calibration certificate (DCC) has been further developed. A major release has been made to the DCC. It offers extended possibilities to document e. g. formula support and conformity statements. The new version 3.0.0 became an open-source project under the Lesser General Public License (LGPL) v3.

The working group "Information Technology Force and Torque" has further developed the prototype of the digital calibration certificate (DCC digital calibration certificate) on the basis of an XML schema file. This scheme, from which the calibration certificates can be derived, is now available in version 3.0.0 for scientists and calibration laboratories.

The DCC enables the unique and global identification and storage of the properties of a calibration object and does more than just verify metrological traceability. For the representation of the measured values, the D-SI-based data exchange format in an XML schema file has also been further developed.

Particular attention has been paid to the fact that the DCC must be machine-readable and interpretable. The main tasks are dealt with in the joint project "GEMIMEG-II-Safe and robust calibrated measuring systems for digital transformation” in the subproject "Development of a digital platform with Digital Calibration Certificates (DCC) and Digital Twins (DT) for calibrated metrological processes in metrology". This project, funded by the BMWi, started in August 2020 with a duration of 3 years. Opens external link in new windowLink

To ensure broad acceptance of the DCC, the developers consulted with many different stakeholders and industry partners. The DCC is primarily aimed at institutions worldwide that need proof of the metrological traceability of their measurement results in order to use them in the modern production processes that enable IIoT / Industry 4.0. On the basis of the DCC, it is possible to develop further exchange formats for the digital twin and for further projects in many other areas. An example of the application of very similar XML structures is pursued within the framework of the ISAN project [Opens external link in new windowLink. Here, the development and establishment of system-controlled support for emergency rescue services is being driven forward. DCC applications will include electronic storage, authenticated, encrypted and signed transmission, and harmonized interpretation of calibration results.

For this purpose, a major release was made at the DCC in 2021. This now offers the possibility to better support formulas, to specify the respective measuring equipment at each measuring point, to document conformity statements and thus to create space for future-oriented data structures, which are necessary for future calibrations of sensor systems. With the new version 3.0.0, the DCC became an open source project under the Lesser General Public License (LGPL) v3, which means that nothing stands in the way of using the XML schema.
