Tuning of Weighing Instruments by Means of Upgrading Modules

13.08.2009

In the field of weighing technology, the first certificate for a special module for weighing instruments (see the picture below) has been issued. This module realizes functions which make it possible to convert connected, simple weighing instruments which have no price-computing function into weighing instruments having a price-computing function. By connecting a label printer - in combination with suitable functions in the software of the module - it is, in addition, possible to upgrade existing weighing instruments into price-labelling weighing instruments.

The layout of the labels to be printed can be determined by the user almost completely according to his own wishes. Thereby, a secured software module under legal control ensures automatically that the required conditions of legal control are being complied with. It is, for example, ensured that the respective weight and price indication cannot be overwritten by other indications, for example by advertisement. The main field of application is the weight and price labelling of single prepackages containing foodstuffs. The configuration is carried out by means of a web browser and an HTTP protocol, via the Ethernet interface of the module.

Due to the fact that the module can be connected to both automatic and non-automatic weighing instruments, highest flexibility is given. If necessary, and if the configuration of the connected weighing instrument is suited for this purpose, the module can also be used as a data storage device under legal control. The cost-intensive use of an alibi printer is thus a thing of the past. With this novel, tested technology, older - but metrologically faultless - weighing instruments can be cost-efficiently upgraded for use in a much larger range of application. After the module has been tested by PTB, and after a corresponding test certificate has been issued, the module may be connected to any suitable, verified weighing instrument – provided its type approval allows the connection of such a module.
