Chinese-European Gas-Metrology Conference

28.04.2009

Over 130 technical experts in gas volume measurement technology and legal metrology from China and Europe had the opportunity to exchange ideas on 3rd and 4th November 2008 in Beijing about the current developments in the gas sector.

The event was organized by the present-day VSL (Netherlands), PTB, NIM (China), with support by the representation of the Elster company in China. The event was opened by Liu Xinmin, Dept. of Metrology of the AQSIQ, and by Dr. Duan Yuning, Vice Director of NIM. Following this, 12 lectures by Chinese and European speakers, see Figure 1, explored the spectrum of gas metrology, also from regional viewpoints. The importance of metrology for global trade, the importance of legal metrology, metrological field experiences, the realization of the traceability chains (which sometimes differ from country to country), the implementation and the benefit of international comparison measurements and particularly also European harmonization regarding the natural gas-cubic meter were presented to the audience of specialists. At the end of the second conference day, a tour of the new, generously proportioned NIM site - ready for occupancy - in front of the gates of Beijing followed. All in all, the event carried out for the first time in this scope met with great approval, so that a repeat event is planned already for 2010.
