Weighing Instruments

Working Group 1.12

Profile

The staff members of working group 1.12 weighing instruments are competent partners of manufacturers, verification authorities, market surveillance bodies as well as other notified bodies. They assist the conformity assessment body of PTB (KBS) and the committee for determining technical rules (REA) when dealing with any question that may arise from the requirements of legal metrology.

All questions with regard to metrological requirements on weighing instruments in the field of legal control, metrological tests as per standards and normative documents (e.g. EN45501 and OIML recommendations) are considered. This also applies to performing conformity assessments as per Modules B and G within the scope of the law on measuring and verification (MessEG) and the European Directives NAWID and MID.

We offer the following services to manufacturers: Testing and evaluating of weighing instruments, modules of weighing instruments and devices intended to be connected to weighing instruments. These activities are pursued within the scope of the law on measuring and verification (MessEG), NAWID, MID and certification programmes of WELMEC and OIML.

We also supply technical experts for audits of the German Accreditation Service (DAkkS) and the KBS, to the latter within the frame of conformity assessments as per Module D.

There are many links between the working group and other institutions on a national and an international level. Staff members participate in a huge number of committees and working groups (e.g. OIML, WELMC, DIN, verification authorities, VDMA). They make essential contributions to ensuring accuracy, metrological security and measurement stability while creating rules and adopting existing rules to the state of the art. Moreover, they strive to harmonize requirements and foster the dialogues between the various market actors such as manufacturers, notified bodies, market surveillance bodies and the verifications bodies.
