Revision of DIN EN ISO/IEC 17 025

03.04.2017

Since the beginning of 2015, the ISO/IEC 17 025 standard “General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories” has been undergoing comprehensive revision.

Inside PTB, a harmonized position was elaborated which was incorporated – at a national standardization level – into the DIN Working Committee “Certification bases (bases on conformity assessment)” and its subcommittee “Laboratories”. Here, the focal task was to determine comparable requirements made on the metrological traceability for calibration and test laboratories, taking into account PTB‘s legal mandate within the scope of the Units and Time Act. In this context, an informative annex to the standard was drawn up which – besides the leading role of the national metrology institutes – also describes the importance of the CIPM-MRA as part of the Metre Convention. At the end of the year, the DIS (Draft International Standard) ISO/IEC will be put to the vote at the international level. An initial German edition of the revised standard will also be available by that time. At the international level, PTB is represented in the respective ISO/CASCO working group via the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML).
