“Fundamental Physics for Metrology” theory professorship

03.04.2017

On 1 April 2016, Dr. Andrey Surzhykov was appointed director of the “Fundamental Physics of Metrology” institute following a joint professorial appointment by TU Braunschweig and PTB.

This new institute was established by PTB with the aim of further developing the quantum theory of atomic and mesoscopic systems. To this end, the activities of the institute range from the high-precision analysis of atomic structures and collisions to the investigation of coherent processes in ultra-cold quantum gases, as well as the modeling of phase transitions in magnetic systems. The joint goal of these research activities is to provide support for the development of new metrology standards, for the precise determination of fundamental constants and for the formulation of tests concerning fundamental symmetries of nature.
