GEMIMEG-II: Reliable data made in Germany

Annual Report 2020
03.03.2021

PTB, together with other research partners and companies, has launched the GEMIMEG-II project in order to maintain the high quality level of the “made in Germany” label in the digitalized world, too. This project has received funding worth 12 million euros from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). Under the designation “Secure and robust calibrated measurement systems for the digital transformation”, the 13 partners participating in the project are intending to develop reliable standards to ensure the reliable communication of digital data, information and certificates in quality infrastructure processes. The term of this project is three years. The overall goal consists in advancing the digital transformation and in strengthening Germany as an industrial base.

Within the scope of the GEMIMEG working program, a major aim is to introduce the Digital Calibration Certificate (DCC), which was developed at PTB, into international metrology institutes and committees. The activities regarding digital twins – as they are used, for example, for the 20 MNm torque standard machine which is currently being set up at PTB’s Competence Center for Wind Energy – represent another key focus. Large industrial companies such as Bosch, Siemens, Telekom and Zeiss, but also the Fraunhofer- Gesellschaft (with the Heinrich Hertz Institute, Berlin), and several small and medium-sized enterprises as well as two universities are among the partners participating in the GEMIMEG project.
