Recognition and assessment of the quality management system

01.04.2016

In 2015, PTB’s technical quality management (QM) system, which is concentrated on its core services in calibration, measurements, testing, and metrological research and development, once again won unconditional recognition at home and abroad. Supplementary to the legal regulations that apply to higher federal authorities, the basis of this recognition was provided by: DIN EN ISO/IEC 17 025; the recommendations issued by the DFG (German Research Foundation) on good scientific practice; ISO Guide 34 in the field of chemistry; and DIN EN ISO/IEC 17 065 for PTB’s activities as a conformity assessment body.

The Initiates file downloadself-declaration on quality management, provided by the President of PTB on the basis of the demonstration of competence, has won the unconditional acceptance of the customers and users of PTB’s services. This self-declaration is based on an annual self-assessment process (“review”) which incorporates the results of internal audits and comparison measurements, along with the evaluation results of feedback provided by customers of PTB’s services.

Within the scope of the implementation of international arrangements in the framework of the Metre Convention (Opens external link in new windowCIPM-MRA), of legal metrology (Opens external link in new windowOIML-MAA), and in the field of explosion protection (Opens external link in new windowIECEx System), international teams of experts examined the expert work done at PTB and declared their confidence in the efficiency of PTB’s quality management system.

As part of renotification processes which took place in conjunction with the publication of new versions of the EU Directives on measuring instruments, non-automatic weighing instruments and explosion protection (MID, NAWID, ATEX), relevant proof of competence was provided to the national notification authorities on the basis of PTB’s quality management system.
