New Testing Instructions for instruments for measuring the carbon dioxide content in fuel gases

Instruments which measure the carbon dioxide content in fuel gases combined, with volume correctors, serve to determine the compressibility coefficient of fuel gases in accordance with procedures recognized by the PTB.

With the planned supplementation of Appendix 7 to the Verification Ordinance, carbon dioxide measuring instruments, which are permanently connected ("on line") to volume correctors, become subject to pattern approval and mandatory verification. The devices concerned are process gas chromatographs which have already been approved for this purpose and carbon dioxide measuring instruments which have to be developed in future specially for connection to volume correctors. Carbon dioxide measuring instruments according to the infrared principle, which are used in the field of gas supply to determine the compressibility coefficient for the purpose of subsequent volume correction must also be tested at regular intervals.

Volume 24 of the PTB Testing Instructions, which has now been published, describes test methods for these types of measuring instruments and is intended for both, verification authorities and state-approved test centres for gas measuring instruments and for users in the gas supply industry.
