Awarding the Helmholtz Prize 2009

Prize for precision measurements in physics, chemistry and medicine

16.06.2008

If you would like to have it, you must give maximum performances in the field of metrology: The Helmholtz Prize endowed with 20 000 Euro is the most distinguished German award in the world of metrology. Every two years, the Helmholtz-Fonds (Helmholtz Foundation) and also the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft (Donors' Association for the Promotion of Science and Humanities in Germany) pay tribute to European scientists for precision measurements in physics, chemistry and medicine. The application deadline is December 31, 2008.

Sought after is scientific and technological research work in the field of metrology. The work to be submitted must be a recent research achievement of a theoretical or experimental nature, either contributing to fundamentals or aiming at concrete applications. The work must have been developed in Europe or in cooperation with scientists working in Germany.

With the Helmholtz Prize, outstanding scientific and technical research work in the field of metrology has been honored since 1973. In 2007, the Mainz physicist Dr. Göstar Klingelhöfer received the prestigious award for the development of a miniaturized Mössbauer spectrometer.

Scientists may submit their applications until December 31, 2008 to:
The Chairman of the Helmholtz-Fonds e.V.
Prof. Dr. Ernst O. Göbel
President of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt
Bundesallee 100
D-38116 Braunschweig
