Instructions for the testing of electronic supplementary devices for instruments for measuring gas, water and heat

19.06.1996

Within the series of publications "PTB Testing Instructions", volume 22 "Electronic supplementary devices for instruments for measuring gas, water and heat" has been published.

Testing Instructions are guidelines for the testing of measuring instruments, of their supplementary devices, and of equipment and apparatus. They cover all measuring instruments acceptable for verification and certification and their ancillary devices, and measuring instruments which have been tested by the PTB.

Volume 22 which has just been published covers the testing of electronic supplementary devices for instruments used to measure gas, water and heat (e.g. the so-called "tariff instruments"). These instruments will be increasingly used in future to ensure fairer invoicing.

From the contents:

After a definition of the terms used, the chapter "Description" explains the mode of functioning and refers to the potentialities of these instruments. Test rooms and test equipment are described in detail; other chapters cover the test proper and stamping. In this context, the various possibilities are discussed of how the instruments can be tested for correctness, taking into account the different components which may form part of these instruments. The chapter "Measures to be taken at the place of use" describes the connection of these supplementary devices to the instruments used to measure gas, water and heat. Reference is made both to the prerequisites and to the measures to be taken, for example, with or without official supervision. Appendices list the relevant regulations, refer to supplementary devices accepted for verification and include a specimen copy of a test record.

The Testing Instructions are intended both for verification authorities, state-approved test centres and supervising bodies and for manufacturers and testing laboratories of industry; they can also be used for teaching purposes.
