ISEM in Braunschweig from May 12 to 14, 1997

The International Symposium on Non-Linear Electromagnetic Systems (ISEM) will be held in Braunschweig from May 12 to 14, 1997. This international conference whose program is dominated by the modern problems of applied electrical engineering, microelectromechanics, sensor engineering and biomagnetism is organized by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB). Since 1988, the ISEM which was created by the Japan Society of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics has been held seven times: five times in Japan, once in Korea and once (1995) in Cardiff, Great Britain.

The program of this year's conference will cover the numerical calculation methods for the design and optimization of sensors, actors and electrical machines as well as inverse problems in nondestructive materials testing and medicine in particular. Other central topics will be the material properties and their simulation as well as microelectromechanics. The fact that sensor engineering will be to the fore is evidence of the interdisciplinary and application-oriented character of the conference.

About 260 participants who will hold 260 papers in paper and poster sessions are expected to come. To underline the strongly interdisciplinary character of the event, no sessions will be held in parallel so that all participants can take part in all events, thus ensuring that experts from different disciplines meet. The reinforcement of the exchange of experience and the adoption of suggestions from other areas of specialization were very positively rated by participants in former ISEM conferences, just in view of the rapid development of the new technologies.

With their most attractive subjects - biomagnetism in medicine and means of transportation equipped with magnetic bearings -, the opening and the closing session are highlights of this conference.
