ISEM - from May 12 to 14, 1997 in Braunschweig

26.08.1996

ISEM, the International Symposium on Non-Linear Electromagnetics, will be held in Braunschweig from May 12 to 14, 1997. The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) will be the organizer of this interdisciplinary conference whose program will be dominated by the latest problems of applied electrical engineering, micro electromechanics, biosensor technology and biomagnetism. Established by the Japan Society of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics, ISEM has been held seven times since 1988: five times in Japan, once in Korea and the last time, in 1995, in Cardiff, Great Britain.

The program of this event will cover the numerical calculation methods for the design and optimization of sensors, actuators and electric machines, as well as the treatment of inverse problems, in materials testing and in the field of medicine in particular. Other central topics will be the material properties and their simulation, and much more consideration than until now will be given to micro electromechanics. The fact that, in general, sensor technology will be in the center of the lectures and discussions is symptomatic of the interdisciplinary and application-oriented character of this conference.

It is expected that the lecture and poster sessions of ISEM '97 will be attended by about 300 participants who will present 250 contributions. Since it has been the basic idea to lay special emphasis on the interdisciplinary character of this symposium, there will be no parallel sessions so that all participants will be given the opportunity to attend all events. This will make it easier to bring together experts from different disciplines. The intention involved in the interdisciplinary character of extending the range of experience and picking up new ideas from other fields was judged positively by former ISEM participants, in particular in view of the rapid development of the new technologies.

The city of Braunschweig with its large number of research institutes and its Technical University whose institutes are active in almost all fields of modern technology offers almost ideal conditions for such a conference in which emphasis will be placed on interdisciplinary aspects.
