ISO/IEC 17025 - Probable extension of the transition

18.06.2020

In June 2020, ILAC and ISO decided to extend the deadline for the transition to the new version of ISO/IEC 17025 to 1 June 2021 [1]. This decision was taken in order to help accredited laboratories to adapt their working procedures to the new version of ISO/IEC 17025 despite the restrictions imposed by Covid-19.

This does not affect the status of the current version of ISO/IEC 17025:2005 as a harmonized standard throughhout the European Union and thus also in Germany. EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005 will continue to be listed as a harmonized standard by the European Commission until 31 December 2020 at the latest [2].

According to the EA (European co-operation for  Accreditation) communication of 15 June 2020 [3], there will also be a regulation by the European Commission concerning the extension of the transition period. It is expected that the new transition period will be announced in time.
