Certification according to IECEx

Information for manufacturers regarding the application for „IECEx Certificates of Conformity (IECEx CoC)“

Issue status 05/2020

The "IEC System for Certification to Standards relating to Equipment for use in Explosive Atmospheres" (IECEx-System) exists since the year 2003 under the umbrella of the “International Electrical Commission (IEC)”. Here, certificates for products (Certificate of Conformity (CoC)) are issued by Certification Bodies in accordance with the IECEx rules IECEx 01-S / IECEx 02.

Sector 1 “Explosion Protection” of the conformity assessment department (KBS) of Physikalisch-Technischen Bundesanstalt (PTB) is a Certification Body (ExCB) with associated Test Laboratory (ExTL) within the IECEx-System. Explosion protected electrical and non-electrical products (equipment) are tested and certified there according to the IECEx rules IECEx 01-S / IECEx 02.

For further information to the IECEx-System please refer to the IECEx-website
(Opens external link in new windowhttp://www.iecex.com).

Certificates issued according to the IECEx conformity assessment procedure are administrated online by the IECEx-System. The issuance of a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) includes the verification that the product complies with the requirements of the applicable Standards and that the production site meets the requirements to quality assurance according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 80079-34.

The IECEx CoC with the associated Ex Test Report package (ExTR) as well as the Quality Assessment Report (QAR) can form the basis for national certificates in IEC member countries (so-called „Fast Track Procedure“). This requires an agreement with the certification body issuing the national certificate.

Further information regarding the conformity assessment procedure is given in the “General Information on Conformity Assessment Systems RL 2014/34/EU and IECEx-System”.
