Staff Survey 2014

30.12.2014

Each PTB staff member has an opinion on the position, standing and prospects of PTB as a whole, as well as his own personal work environment and the working conditions. In the Staff Survey 2014, this opinion was requested. The aim was to identify the staff ’s current mood as well as possibilities for improving the working conditions.

The questionnaire was worked out with an external company, in cooperation with the executive committee, the Personnel Section, and the Staff Council, and addressed personal satisfaction with one’s own tasks, activities and the remuneration, the quality of the cooperation within the working groups as well as a professional career at PTB. Further questions were directed at the assessment of the leadership culture, of communication sequences and workflow, and the future of PTB. Altogether, 64.1 % of the PTB staff members participated in the survey; thus the results can be accepted as representative of the opinion of the staff members of PTB. The large number of supplementary answers in the free text fields provided documented the need for differentiated modes of expression, both for positively and for negatively perceived circumstances of work. The results of the survey indicated a pronounced identification of the colleagues with their tasks at PTB. One’s own activity, the climate of cooperation as well as the framework conditions of the work, as, e.g. flexible working time regulations, are assessed positively. Perceived as in need of improvement, on the other hand, are, e.g., the transparency of assessments of performance and ratings, the professional career options and the knowledge transfer to younger employees in the case of staff change. A comparison with the results of the survey in 2005 shows that positive work circumstances continue to persist, but that in the case of critical topics, no clear change to the positive could be perceived. The current results thus provide the Presidential Board and the heads of the divisions with reference points for improvement. In coordination with the Presidential Board, information and discussion processes were initiated at the divisional and the interdivisional level, in order to identify weaknesses, e.g. in the fields of communication and cooperation. Hence, measures for improvements will be derived in the near future with the goal of creating increased satisfaction among staff members in terms of the entire PTB.
