A European collaboration involving clock experts from the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) and the Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica (INRIM) has used PTB's transportable optical atomic clocks to measure gravitation for the first time. In einem neuen Gebäude auf dem Gelände der PTB, dem „Euler-Bau I“, hält das Kompetenzzentrum für Windenergie Einzug. Hier soll technisches Neuland betreten werden, indem die Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler der PTB Messtechnik entwickeln und bereitstellen, die den zuverlässigen Betrieb von immer größeren und leistungsfähigeren Windenergieanlagen ermöglicht. 560 Quadratmeter Fläche stehen dafür bereit. Die Kosten des Baus und dessen Einrichtung liegen bei ca. fünf Millionen Euro. Gestern begannen bereits die ersten Arbeiten für den zweiten Bauabschnitt, den „Euler-Bau II“. Pressevertreter sind herzlich eingeladen, die Fertigstellung des ersten Bauabschnitts mit den Mitarbeitern der PTB und geladenen Gästen zu feiern: am 13. Februar um 11:30 Uhr auf dem Gelände der Physikalisch-Technischen Bundesanstalt in Braunschweig.
