Through their work, doctoral candidates contribute vitally to metrological progress and thus also to PTB's success.Therefore, PTB has developed a support program which seizes on current developments und can compete with university standards. .
By means of student work, work experience or PTB's dual study program, students can set their priorities already during their training and get to know PTB's fields of work. .
PTB trains vocational trainees and apprentices both in Braunschweig and also in Berlin. They profit from a highly modern technical environment and dedicated instructors. We have compiled helpful information on all the apprenticed professions and many tips for the application.
There is a great demand for the WissensForscher (KnowledgeSearchers) project at PTB! Here, primary school children experiment once a week in their own laboratory. But also older school children can gain an insight into the tasks of PTB within the scope of work experience or on Zukunftstag (Girls' Day/Boys' Day) and obtain information on vocational training opportunities.
The compatibility of family and work has high priority at PTB. Numerous measures – from the day care facility, to "Rooming-in", and to flexible working hours – support the parents working here in their everyday life.

PTB's main site is located in Braunschweig. About 2100 staff members work on the approx. 1 km² site.
PTB's Berlin Institute is located in Berlin-Charlottenburg (close to Ernst-Reuter-Platz). This is where the 135-year history of the PTR/PTB began. Furthermore, PTB operates a laboratory in the electron storage ring BESSY II as well as its own electron storage ring Metrology Light Source – both on the south side of the city, in the Technology Park Berlin-Adlershof.
For 135 years, PTB (with its preceding institution, the PTR) has been the center of measurement in Germany.
