Eye Protection

Mechanical testing

Dummy with safety helmetIt's not a thriller: Live bullets are shot at the PTB – at helmet visors for motor cyclists. Inside the helmet there certainly is a dummy head of aluminium or plastics. The – literally – well-aimed over-stressing is intended to make the helmet fit for road traffic or for use at the workplace where it must withstand particles or grit flying around. A shooting facility fires from exactly defined distances and at precisely defined velocities at the visor or lenses and the lateral frame. Blueprint paper placed between helmet and head stain the area in which the helmet has not had a protective effect. Only if this test has been successfully passed will type approval be granted.
