Patents: Statistical Information

The PTB views patent and trademark rights as an important part of the technology transfer into the economy and at the same time as proof of competency. Patents ensure the necessary investment security for the licensee. For this reason, PTB has for several years been increasingly making use of inventions by its employees and has independently exploited the resulting patents.

With its current approx. 100 patents, classical metrology is covered. Examples are test pieces on the µm- and nm-scale or the exact determination of the planity or the curvature of surfaces. As an indirect result of this, however, patents in the field of sensor technology, laser technology, electronic circuits or medical diagnoses are also available. PTB also holds international patents in strategically reputable fields. Many patents are already licensed.

The diagram below intends to provide a view of the diversity of the PTB patents and at the same time enable an initial orientation for interested parties. The classification is effected according to key words from the field of technology or the field of application of the invention on which the patent is based.

—   Safety engineering by means of nuclear physics methods
—   Explosion protection and chemical engineering
—   Medical technology, especially ECG diagnoses
—   Mechanical, thermal, acoustical and magnetic field sensors
—   Electronic components, circuits or equipment
—   Optical methods of metrology
—   Precision engineering

Worthwhile here - as is also true for all other cases - is an inquiry directed to the authorized representative for technology transfer or recalling data from the patent database which is available online in this portal.
