Absolutely indigestible: magnetic markers in gastro-intestinal motorics

Dispensed as a pill, magnetic markers follow the passage of food through the human body. When the magnetic field of these water-, acid- and base-resistant capsules is observed, transport and digestion of the food become obvious. The pharmaceutical industry profits from the information such "speaking pills" provide about the exact passage of a drug through the human body.

Depending on the aim of an investigation, soluble capsules are also experimented with, thus also as regards the following question: What material must be selected to encapsulate a medicine so that the capsule gives off its contents neither too early nor too late but just where it is desired?

The film opposite shows the passage of such a marker.
