Germany at present has five dosimetry services,
which provide official personal dosemeters for neutron radiation and evaluate these after a certain time of use. To assure the quality of their services, these services are obliged to take part once yearly in comparison measurements carried out by the PTB.

The official personal dosemeter used in Germany is an albedo dosemeter which detects the low-energy neutrons backscattered by the body in particular. The yearly comparison irradiations are performed on the basis of the international standard ISO 8529 using our radionuclide neutron sources. The personal dosemeters are irradiated on a plexiglass phantom. In part, also the stray radiation fields behind shadow objects are used. The neutron sources are also employed to investigate and calibrate direct-reading or "passive" personal dosemeters.

These services are provided in accordance with the quality system of the PTB. The charges are fixed in accordance with the Regulations governing charges for services rendered by the PTB in their version at present applicable.
